Congratulations to the Justin Institute physicians who were named "Top Docs" by Fort Worth Magazine and 360 West. Kristen Pyrc, M.D., and Kia Carter, M.D., from the department of Psychiatry, graced the front cover of Fort Worth Magazine and were featured discussing the pediatric mental health crisis in Texas.

Lorenzo Fabbri, Ph.D., student in Bioengineering at the University of Texas at Arlington received the 2023-2024 Graduate Distinguished Student Employee of the Year award. This award is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Lorenzo is working under the mentorship of Christos Papadelis Ph.D., on developing tools and methods for the precise localization of the epileptogenic zone in children with drug resistant epilepsy.
Sakar Rijal, Ph.D., a student in Bioengineering at The University of Texas at Arlington, was selected to receive the prestigious Franklyn Alexander Ph.D., Scholarship Award for outstanding academic excellence. The award is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Sakar is working under Dr. Papadelis’ mentorship on studying the development of GABAergic biomarkers in Dravet syndrome.
Ludovica Corona, Ph.D., a student in Bioengineering at The University of Texas at Arlington, was selected to receive the travel award from the American Clinical Magnetoencephalography Society (ACMEGS) in order to present her work on "Mapping functional connectivity in the brain of children with drug resistant epilepsy" at the annual meeting of the society in Orlando, Florida.
Daniela Ventura, a Psychology student and McNair Scholar at The University of Texas at Arlington, was selected to receive the Psi Chi Research Award at the 2024 Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) Regional Conference, for her work on "Reward Learning and its Psychological Correlates in Adolescents with Epilepsy", under the supervision of Dr. Crystal Cooper.
The Neurosciences Research team also shined for one more time during the Dallas-Fort Worth Spring into Bioengineering Excellence Symposium organized by the Bioengineering Department of The University of Texas at Arlington. F. Kathryn King was selected to present her work on "Emotional Conflict Processing in Pediatric Epilepsy" under the supervision of Crystal Cooper, Ph.D. In addition, Saeed Jahromi, Ph.D., student in Bioengineering at The University of Texas at Arlington, under the supervision of Dr. Papadelis, also received an award for the second-best poster in this event, along with a $100 prize.
