Join us for the 2025 Meeting of the Mind Pediatric Neurosciences Conference
The Jane and John Justin Institute for Mind Health at Cook Children's is honored to host its biennial, multi-day Pediatric Neurosciences Conference: Meeting of the Mind on April 16-17, 2025 at the Sheraton Fort Worth Downtown Hotel. Through didactic lectures and master classes, the conference will highlight ways health care teams across specialties can work together while caring for children with complex neurologic disorders.
Brittney Rhem, M.D., neurologist at Cook Children's, will present the latest advancements in gene therapies for neuromuscular diseases. This presentation will provide an overview of recent progress in gene-based therapy, focusing on viral vector-mediated gene transfer therapy for spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Dr. Rhem's presentation will include a review of the development, indications, limitations and side effects of gene-based treatments.
This year's conference will also feature hot topics in medicine, including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and virtual reality. Kristen Taylor, D.O., neurologist at Cook Children's, will lead a session on the impact of these technologies on medicine, highlighting their potential to increase motivation and therapy participation in children with neuromuscular conditions. Dr. Taylor will also explore how virtual reality and robotic technology can improve access to services by being integrated into school or home environments. Additional lectures will highlight advances in diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, mental health disorders and stroke among others.
The master classes on EEG Interpretations at this year's conference will provide a comprehensive overview of EEG fundamentals, clinical applications and future advancements. Led by Dave Shahani, M.D., and Rickey Ross, REEGT, of Cook Children's, will provide a comprehensive overview of what an EEG is and how it is performed. The session explores the intricacies of result interpretation, highlights key findings and explores cutting-edge innovations like quantitative EEG and AI. Attendees of this master class will also gain insights into current practices and the future of EEG at Cook Children's Medical Center. Additional master classes in pain management, movement disorders, behavior management and transition of care are planned as well.
